In recent years, Salt Lake City has become an increasingly recognized cultural center. On October 21 and 22, 2016, Baruch/Gayton was honored to create and produce the Grand Opening weekend of the 2,500 seat George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater – the new state-of-the-art home of blockbuster Broadway level theatricals and concert performances.
The Premier Performance on October 21st, 2016 featured Tony Award-winning performer Brian Stokes Mitchell and "Smash" television actress and Tony-nominated Broadway performer Megan Hilty. The night was hosted by Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Academy Award-winning singer and actress Rita Moreno, and accompanied by the Ballet West Orchestra with music directed by award-winning conductor/arranger Kurt Bestor. They were joined on stage by some of Utah's finest performing artists, including Ballet West, Utah Opera, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Repertory Dance Theatre and the University of Utah Department of Theatre.
On October 22nd, 2016, Baruch/Gayton created and produced a free open house event along with the Salt Lake City Arts Council. Visitors had the chance to view the theater’s architecture and explore the city's newest performing arts venue. 15-minute, drop-in performances were scheduled throughout the myriad of performance spaces in the venue and featured some of Utah’s best local performers.
